EUR/JPY represents the exchange rate between the euro and the Japanese yen on the forex market. The base currency, EUR, is quoted in terms of the counter currency, JPY. Unlike other currency pairs, the pip value for yen pairs is placed at the second decimal place.
When the European Central Bank raises interest rates for the euro, this currency pair can become a target for carry traders seeking to profit from the interest rate differential between the euro and yen. The Bank of Japan keeps the yen’s interest rate extremely low to avoid deflation in the currency.
